After becoming Canada’s newest cross laminated timber (CLT) manufacturer in 2017, Element5 is set to boost operations at its current mass timber production facility in Ripon, Quebec.
The upgraded factory will have the capacity to produce 10,000 cubic metres per year of CLT and Glulam, equivalent to four times the amount of wood used in Canada’s tallest wood building, the UBC Brock Commons Student Residence at 18 storeys.1
INCREASING PRODUCTION TO MEET DEMAND
The province is poised to capitalize on the growing demand for sustainable construction and offsite prefabrication, accelerated by changes to the 2021 International Building Code which will permit timber buildings to 18 storeys.2
Using CLT in projects shifts the construction effort from the building site to a factory where components are designed and manufactured under controlled conditions to exact specifications, then transported to site for rapid assembly at lower overall cost.
Element5’s expansion means that building with CLT and other engineered wood products can be done more readily and more competitively than ever before.
Soon, Element5 will announce additional expansion plans which will make it one of the largest mass timber producers in North America.
